The dentist will examine your teeth and will determine appropriate treatment, perhaps a simple filling or even a full crown depending on how much healthy tooth structure remains.
Next the dentist will administer anesthetic and prepare your tooth for restoration just like he or she would for many other restorative techniques. |

Traditionally, now the dentist would fill a tray with some "goop" and that you must bite into and hold in your mouth till it hardens.
With CEREC®, the dentist now coats the tooth with a non-toxic, tasteless powder and then a special camera is used to take a digital
3-D picture of your tooth. This process only takes a minute or two. |
Designing, Making and Finishing the Restoration |
Traditionally, after the hardened impression, the dentist would then fit you with a temporary and send you on your way. The dentist would sent the impression to a lab where it would take about 2 weeks for the dentist to get the final restoration ready to bond. You would then come back in for a visit to remove the temporary and get the final restoration adjusted, polished and bonded. |
Now at Sandoval Dental Care, the CEREC 3D software uses the optical impression to create a
3-dimensional model of the prepared tooth and surrounding teeth on the computer.
Next, the dentist uses his or her expertise to design the proper restoration on the computer and within a few minutes the data is sent to the milling machine located in the office. There, a ceramic block which matches your tooth color is placed in the machine. The machine is started and 10-20 minutes later your tooth colored, all ceramic restoration is finished and ready to bond in place! |
